Physical Education

Philosophy

Physical Education is a vital part of human growth because it encompasses all three learning domains (cognitive, affective & psychomotor) making it unique and transferable to all aspects of life. Encouraging students to participate in after school physical activities and community programs is a top priority. Our ultimate goal is to have all students understand and appreciate sports and emphasize the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

CLASS RULES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Proper attire must be worn at all times.
  • Being on-time to PE & to your next class is your responsibility.
  • No gum chewing at any time.
  • No food or drinks (other than water) are allowed in the locker room or gymnasium at any time.
  • No electronic devices may be used in the locker room or the gymnasium at any time.
  • No horse playing is allowed in the gymnasium or locker rooms at any time.
  • Respect for teachers, peers and environment is expected.
  • No students are allowed in the equipment closet.
  • Lockers are for use during your PE period only.
  • Positive self-talk and peer-talk is expected. Foul language will not be tolerated.

BEING PREPARED

ITEMS FOR P.E. MAY BE PURCHASED FROM THE  FOLLOWING PLACES:

Only a full combo of the following items will be counted toward preparedness :


  • MHS t-shirt
  • MHS  long sleeves
  • MHS shorts
  • MHS sweatpants
  • MHS Hoodies or sweatshirt
  • Sneakers with laces
1. Gymnasium/Main Office - PE uniforms will be available for purchase during the 1st 2 weeks of the school year in the gymnasium. Upon conclusion of gymnasium sales, they will be available in the main office. 

2. Fan-Cloth Sales- Look for various sports-team members selling gear



LOCKER ROOM PROCEDURES

  • ONLY come into the locker room during your assigned period 
  • ALWAYS use a lock to protect your valuables
  • ALWAYS use the garbage pails in the front of the locker room
  • ALWAYS inform a member of the PE staff if there is a problem in the locker room

Grading Policy 

Below is the breakdown of our grading policy. You will be able to acquire 4 points on a DAILY BASIS.

Student always demonstrates positive displays of social and interpersonal skills such as honesty, courtesy, cooperation, good sportsmanship and respect for themselves/others, as well as the importance of Physical Education and places group goals ahead of his/her own ambition.

REMINDERS:

  • A grade of 65 will be given to any student that is UNPREPARED 4 times in a single marking period.
    • A grade of 65 will be given to any student that  DOES NOT PARTICIPATE 4 times in a single marking period.
    • A grade of 65 will be given to any student that  has a combination of 4 infractions of non-participation and unprepared.
    • Punctuality point will be deducted if students enter the gymnasium 5 minutes after the late bell.
    • Students will be given 5 minutes to change at the beginning & at the end of class.
  • Students are responsible for getting to class on time after P.E. class ends.
  • For safety purposes jewelry is NOT allowed to be worn, unless it is a religious adornment or medical alert, which must be affixed properly to reduce the chance of injury.
